आत्मविश्वास को जगाए संस्कृत व्याकरण के सारभूत ग्रंथ लघुसिद्धांत कौमुदी से कौन अपरिचित होगा? लघुसिद्धांत कौमुदी व्याकरण का वह ग्रंथ हैं, जिसका अध्ययन किए बिना संस्कृत का अध्ययन अधूरा माना जाता हैं और उसका सम्यक अध्ययन करने वाले को संस्कृत का विशारद माना जाता हैं। इस विलक्षण ग्रंथ के रचियता श्री वरदराज को अपने विधार्थी जीवन में वरदराज अर्थात बैलों का राजा कहकर के पुकारा जाता था। उन्हें ऐसा इसलिए कहा जाता था , क्योंकि वे इतने mandbudd थे की अनेको वर्ष पढ़ने के बाद भी उनको संस्कृत का एक भी अक्षर समझ में नही आया था। उनके सहपाठियों के मध्य वे एक मनोरंजन का विषय थे। इसीलिए उन्होंने उनका नाम वरदराज रख दिया था। एक दिन इस सबसे दुःखी होकर वे घर छोड़कर चल दिए और मार्ग में एक मंदिर के चबूतरे पर विश्राम के लिए रूके। थके-हारे थे तो वही नीन्द आ गई। नीन्द खुलने पर उन्होंने एक पतंगे को देखा, उस पतंगे के पैर टूट गए थे, परंतु मात्र आगे वाले अंगो का सहारा लेकर वह दीवार के ऊपर चढ़ पाने में समर्थ हो पाया। वरदराज ने देखा की ऐसा करने में वह कई बार गिरा, परंतु वह जितनी बार गिरा, उतनी बार फिर से प्रयत्न करके खड़ा हुआ और अंततः अपनी इस लगनशील वृति के कारण दीवार के कगार पर चढ़ने में सक्षम हो सका। वरदराज ने इस दृश्य से शिक्षा ली और वापस गुरूकुल लौट आए। वहाँ उन्होंने पूरी तत्परता और आत्मविश्वास के साथ अध्ययन आरंभ किया। देखते -देखते सफलता के द्वार खुलते गए और एक दिन वे संस्कृत के उदभट विद्वान बन गए॥ ॥ प्रेरणा स्रोत ----पंडित श्री राम शर्मा आचार

English translation: Awaken confidence          Who would be unfamiliar with the short text Siddhasiddhanta Kaumudi of Sanskrit grammar? Chordasiddhanta is that grammar of Kaumudi grammar without which studying Sanskrit is considered incomplete and anyone who studies it properly is considered to be a master of Sanskrit. The author of this unique book, Shri Varadaraja was called as Varadaraja, the king of bulls in his student life. He was called so because he was so mandbudd that even after studying for many years he did not understand even a single letter of Sanskrit. He was a subject of entertainment among his classmates. That is why they named him Varadaraja.           One day, saddened by this, he left home and left for rest on the platform of a temple on the way. When we were tired, then the same sleep came. On opening the sleep, he saw a kite, the legs of that kite were broken, but only by using the forward limbs, he was able to climb over the wall. Varadaraja saw that he fell several times in doing this, but he tried again as many times as he fell, and eventually was able to climb on the edge of the wall due to his dilapidated throes. Varadaraja learned from this scene and returned back to Gurukul. There he started studying with complete readiness and confidence.
