नमस्कार दोस्तो, आज आप लोगो के सामने एक ऐसे महापुरुष की जीवनी का एक छोटासा अंश लेकर आया हू जो एक राष्ट्रीय के नायक होते हुए भी अपने आप को परिश्रमी और स्वालम्बन बनाए रखा, मैं अमेरिकी राष्ट्रपति अब्राहम लिंकन के बारे में लिखने जा रहा हू।

अमेरिका के राष्ट्रपति अब्राहम लिंकन से मिलने उनका एक मित्र पहुँचा। उसने देखा की राष्ट्रपति लिंकन स्वयं अपने जूतों की पॉलिश कर रहे हैं। इतने बड़े देश के राष्ट्रपति को स्वयं अपने जूतों की पॉलिश करते देख उसके आश्चर्य का ठिकाना न रहा। अपने मन में उठती जिज्ञासा को रोक न सका और उसने राष्ट्रपति लिंकन से पूछा----मित्र! तुम अपने जूते क्या स्वयं पॉलिश करते हो? तुम तो दुनिया के सबसे शक्तिशाली देश के राष्ट्रपति हो---ये काम करने वाले तो तुम्हे सैकडो मिल जाएँगे॥ राष्ट्रपति लिंकन ने उत्तर दिया--मित्र! अपने जूते दूसरो से पॉलिश करवाने के लिए मैं इस देश का राष्ट्रपति नही बना हूँ। यदि मैं स्वयं अपने कार्यो को करने के लिए दूसरो पर आश्रित रहूँगा तो समाज को क्या दिशा और देशवासियों को क्या संदेश दे पाऊँगा? परिश्रम और स्वावलंबन से देश का उत्कर्ष होता हैं। लिंकन की बाते सुनकर उनके मित्र का हृदय गौरव से भर उठा की उनके देश का राष्ट्रपति कितनी ऊँची सोच और कितने विशाल हृदय वाला हैं। सत्य यही हैं की मनुष्य दूसरो पर आधिपत्य दिखाने से नही, वरन अपने गुणों को श्रेष्ट बनाने से महान बनता हैं॥
