गरीब अब्राहम से बना राष्ट्रपति अब्राहम

अब्राहम एक गरीब मजदूर का पुत्र था। उसे पढ़ने का बहुत शौक था। उसे कहीं से पता लगा की उसके शिक्षक एंड्रयू क्राफर्ड के पास जार्ज वाशिंगटन की जीवनी हैं। अब्राहम का मन उसको पढ़ने के लिए लालायित हो उठा तो उन्होंने मिस्टर क्राफर्ड से पुस्तक उधार देने की प्राथना की। मिसटर क्राफर्ड ने उसके पुस्तक प्रेम को देखते हुए वह पुस्तक उसे दे दी। घर पहुँचते ही अब्राहम वह पुस्तक पढ़ने बैठ गया और पढ़ते-पढ़ते ही उसकी आँख लग गई। जब वह सुबह जागा तो उसका हृदय यह देखकर धक-सा रह गया की रात को बारिश की बौछारें आने से पुस्तक खराब हो गई हैं। वह दुखित हृदय से वह पुस्तक लेकर मिस्टर क्राफर्ड के पास पहुँचा। पुस्तक की दुर्गति देखकर वे अब्राहम पर बरस पड़े और बोले-तुमने अपनी लापरवाही से इतनी कीमती पुस्तक खराब कर दी, इसलिए मैं यह पुस्तक किसी को नही देता था। अब या तो इसकी कीमत भरो अथवा तीन दिन तक खेत पर काम करो तो यह पुस्तक तुम्हारी हो जाएगी। पैसे तो अब्राहम के पास नही थे, पर उसने तीन दिन तक मिस्टर क्राफर्ड के खेत पर जी-तोड़ मेहनत की।परिणामस्वरूप पुस्तक मिलने पर वह खुशी से झूमता हुआ घर पहुँचा और अपने पिता को वचन देता हुआ बोला की मैं एक दिन वाशिंगटन की तरह बनकर दिखाऊंगा । यही बालक अब्राहम एक दिन अमेरिका का राष्ट्रपति बना॥

English translation : Abraham was the son of a poor laborer. He was very fond of reading. He finds out somewhere that his teacher Andrew Crawford has a biography of George Washington. When Abraham's heart became eager to read him, he prayed to lend the book to Mr. Crawford. In view of her book love, Mr. Crawford gave the book to her. As soon as he reached home, Abraham sat down to read the book and as he read, he caught his eye.         When he woke up in the morning, his heart was shocked to see that the book had deteriorated due to rain showers at night. He took the book with a sad heart and reached out to Mr. Crawford. Seeing the degradation of the book, he rained on Abraham and said - You spoiled such a precious book with your carelessness, so I did not give this book to anyone. Now either pay for it or work on the farm for three days, then this book will be yours. Abraham did not have the money, but he worked diligently on Mr. Crawford's farm for three days.
